Wet World - September 2003

Passing on my love of paddling through training programs has long been a source of real joy for me.

Training others to be able to provide high quality training programs has been an equal love of mine and I am proud of our range of our programs and the positive effect they have on peoples lives.

Our instructor training programs and paddlers skills programs have been well attended over winter - so all of you who thought the water was too cold (well OK, it was a bit chilly) have no reason not to think about getting back into now that things are warming up.

It is not always you get a chance to see the fun and joy of adults playing and improving in something that they have discovered can be so fun, relaxing and liberating.

How's that for an expression!

Here is a really nice letter from a Andrew, who did one of the Advanced Sea Kayak programs recently..

..It was a wonderful week-end for me. It did heaps for my confidence. I also think I learnt quite a bit, including the places where it is not a good idea to have lunch, as well as a few choice expressions to describe some
undesirable situations.

I really appreciate the way OP, and you in particular, approach your courses. Never is there a feeling that this is a simply a commercial show.

The commitment to teaching the skills, the emphasis on safety and also the enjoyment of doing a trip are so apparent. Old fashioned professionalism; an increasingly rare and refreshing thing.

Don't change the way you do things if you can because I think you've got it as close to perfect, from the pupil's perspective, as I've seen.

All the best, and I'll be back to fix up the rolling. Andrew

It truly makes me a bit misty ...........................

Recent successful candidates from our Instructor programs are an inspiration. The level of teaching and outdoor skills that they bring to the programs even before they arrive is fantastic.

This can only mean better education programs for the paddling public at large, providing safer paddling activities, greater skill retention and development and even greater paddling exploits!
